I have to admit, I got the bug to try my hand at forging a knife from the new program on cable ” forged in fire ” It was a lot of fun, I cut a piece of steel off this truck coil and went to work on it. The fun part is that with enough heat and work, you can hammer out and manipulate steel, I have been a welder most of my life, working with metal is my passion.
I have a handle on this now and attempted to harden it with an oil quench. I believe it is a good knife, a final picture will follow,
I am now working on one from a leaf spring and one from a round steel clip I found along the rail rd. Both seem to be very hard steels.
